Office of the Deputy Superintendent

The Deputy Superintendent in the Long Beach Unified School District holds a crucial leadership role, supporting the Superintendent in the overall management and administration of the district. With a commitment to educational excellence and student success, the Deputy Superintendent works closely with the Superintendent and the district's executive team to develop and implement strategic initiatives, policies, and programs that advance the district's goals and objectives.

The Deputy Superintendent plays a key role in fostering collaboration among district staff, schools, parents, and community stakeholders. They provide guidance and support to principals and other administrators, ensuring effective instructional practices, curriculum development, and assessment strategies are implemented district-wide. They also oversee personnel management, budgeting, and resource allocation to promote efficient operations and optimal learning environments.

Furthermore, the Deputy Superintendent actively engages in community outreach, building strong partnerships with local organizations, government agencies, and businesses to enhance educational opportunities and support the diverse needs of students. They represent the district in various forums, advocating for educational equity, student well-being, and parent involvement.

Biography

Dr. Brown prides herself on working with families, community members and schools in a manner that creates a “village approach” toward educating our youth.  Throughout her 26 years with LBUSD, a central theme in Dr. Brown’s work has been the belief that applying an equity lens to decisions allows for groups that are traditionally not acknowledged to have full voice and access to opportunities.
