Middle School Choice

There are 2 parts to Middle School Choice Process: 

Enrollment: (January 8, 2026 - March 6, 2026)

New or returning to LBUSD students must complete enrollment online with support from the Middle School of Residence

1.  Login to ParentVUE or create ParentVUE account (via enrollment tab)
2. Click on Online Registration tab
3. Complete pre-enrollment questions 
4. Upload documentation including birth certificate, proofs of residency, IEP / 504 info if needed. 
5. Verify enrollment with school clerk

Application (March 2 at 9am - March 2 at 4pm):   Login to ParentVUE and make school selections

• What is your residential middle school?
• Do you want a large or a small school? 
• Where is the school located? 
• How will you get to and from school each day? 
• What electives, clubs, extra curricular activites does the school offer?  

When you are ready to complete the application, Login to ParentVUE → Schools of Choice Tab → 5th Grade parents click to Open SOC Application.  Follow the steps to complete the application.

No. If you wish to attend your Middle School of Residence (MSOR), then select your MSOR only. Any other selections mean that you are willing to accept placement at those schools. 

* Please note that transportation is not provided and it is the parent’s responsibility to get their child to school. You may be placed at your MSOR if there is no available space at your other school choices.

YES.  Residents of the K8 school will have priority.  Students that are attending a K8 school on School of Choice will have second priority but ONLY if they complete the SOC application and select the K8 school first on the application.  Students attending LBUSD on an IDP will be placed AFTER LBUSD residents have been placed.

Students attending at K8 School on School of Choice that do not complete a School of Choice application will not automatically be placed at the K8 School.

Address changes must be updated by your current school before the School of Choice Application opens.  Due to limited space availability, address changes AFTER March 6, 2026 will not be reflected on the School of Choice application and cannot be honored.

If you address changes after March 6, 2026, please contact the Secondary Schools Office for further assistance on placement options.

Results may vary each year based on family interest and enrollment patterns. Some schools receive higher demand, and resident students are given priority, which may limit availability for School of Choice applicants. We encourage you to discuss your selections with your counselor to ensure the best fit for your student. Last year, 87% of 5th graders were placed in their first-choice Middle / K8 school.

All schools are able to honor accommodations for RSP students or for a 504 Plan. Placement is based on the available space at the school and on the offering of an appropriate program at each school.  Please contact your case carrier for information on program offerings at each school or use the Students with Disabilities brochure in the Additional Resources section.

All LBUSD students complete the same school of choice application. Students may make school selections, however not all schools offer the appropriate program for your child.  The Special Education Office places students based on available space and appropriate program and transportation needs.*  Please contact your student’s case carrier or school counselor for questions and support. 

*Transportation is NOT provided for any School of Choice selection.

When you log in to see your placement, you will find a link to select your electives. Students have the opportunity to choose electives that match their interests and strengths. Selecting early increases the chances of securing preferred choices.
