California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress
CAASPP is a standardized testing system to assist teachers, administrators, students and parents by promoting high-quality teaching and learning through the use of a variety of assessment approaches and item types. The CAASPP system encompasses the following assessments: Smarter Balanced Assessments for English Language Arts/Literacy (ELA) and Math (SBAC), California Science Test (CAST), and California Alternate Assessments (CAAs) for ELA, math and science. These state mandated assessments are aligned to the Common Core State Standards.

SBAC ELA & Math
Smarter Balanced Assessments Consortium (SBAC) are comprehensive, end-of-year assessments for English language arts/literacy (ELA) and math that are aligned with the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) for ELA and math and measure progress toward college and career readiness. SBAC consists of two sections: a computer adaptive test and a performance task. For more details see the SBAC website

CAA ELA & Math
California Alternate Assessments (CAA) for ELA and math are aligned with alternate achievement standards, Core Content Connectors, to measure what students know and can do. The CAA is for students with the most significant cognitive disabilities in Special Education. The CAAs are computer-based two-stage adaptive tests. For more details see the CAA website

CAST
The California Science Test (CAST) is aligned with the California Next Generation Science Standards. The CAST consists of stand-alone or discrete items and performance tasks. For more details see the CAST website

CAA Science
California Alternate Assessments (CAA) for Science is aligned with the alternate achievement standards, Science Core Content Connectors, to measure what students know and can do in science. High School CAASPP results are evaluated as part of the CSU Early Assessment Program (EAP) to identify first-time freshmen in need of supported instruction. Supported instruction is designed to assist students in credit-bearing courses.
