Student Internship Opportunities
Internships are a great way for high school students to network, gain career experience and receive professional mentorship. Internships are available during the school year, although most positions happen during summer.

Please read internship descriptions for details. Current juniors/rising seniors are priority applicants. In an effort to provide equitable access to internship experiences, students who have already had an internship experience will not have their application prioritized. All internships on this page, unless clearly noted otherwise, are only open to students who are enrolled in LBUSD.

The Aquarium of the Pacific is southern California’s largest public Aquarium with a mission “to instill a sense of wonder, respect, and stewardship for the Pacific Ocean, its inhabitants, and ecosystems.”
The Science Education Internship provides practical experience in an informal science education environment. Interns will gain public speaking and guest engagement skills, increase awareness of various responsibilities with an informal science education setting, and marine science knowledge. An education supervisor and education coordinator will serve as mentors/supervisors for interns. The 100-hour internship will run from June 23-August 15. The work location is onsite at the Aquarium of the Pacific. Each intern will be assigned to one of the following weekly schedules: Sunday, Tuesday, Thursday OR Saturday, Monday, Wednesday. The schedule is 9:00-3:30p.

The Long Beach Unified School District’s Facilities Development and Planning department provides safe and modern schools for all students through collaborative and forward-looking planning construction and management. Facilities Development and Planning manages the District's school construction bond programs. The department is looking for four (4) to six (6) high school students interested in the building and construction trades, engineering, or architecture industries to participate in the summer internship program.
Deadline to apply: May 11, 2025, or until filled
Young Horizons is seeking two interns during the summer. One intern will mainly assist their program staff and youth at one of their Child Development Centers in Long Beach. The other intern will mainly assist with more administrative tasks. View the full description for further details.

The Museum of Latin American Art (MOLAA) is a non-profit organization and the only museum in the United States dedicated to modern and contemporary Latin American and Latino art. They are seeking ten (10) interns to support their Summer Art Camp and other various projects outlined in the full description.

The Technology & Information Services Branch (TISB) provides technology planning, implementation, and support for schools and administrative offices. TISB is seeking an inquisitive and engaged high school junior or senior to join its Application Development team as an CSS Development intern. This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the field of CSS development while contributing to the usability and *responsiveness of our Staff and Family Applications.

The Long Beach Unified School District Human Resource Services (HRS) department is excited to offer the opportunity for current high school students to gain work experience in education through working in a TK-12 school setting. To apply, you must be: 1) 15 years or older by the first day of employment, June 23, 2025; and currently in grades 9, 10, or 11. Please see full description for more details.
