Career and Technical Student Organization (CTSO)

A Career and Technical Student Organization (CTSO) is an extracurricular group for students in our district’s Career and Technical Education (CTE) to further their knowledge and skills by participating in industry-themed activities, events, and competitions.

CTSOs are a valued instructional component utilized to teach leadership and interpersonal skills development for students in career technical education programs through:

  • Practicing and honing of hands-on skills
  • Connecting with health care professionals and potential employers
  • Competing in events to demonstrate their skills
  • Taking on leadership roles in the organization

LBUSD CTE students participate in two state-recognized Career and Technical Student Organizations:


HOSA is an international student organization providing a unique program of leadership development, motivation, skill competitions, and recognition for high school students enrolled in health science education and biomedical science programs. LBUSD HOSA Chapters include Jordan High School, Lakewood High School, and Sato Academy of Mathematics and Science.


SkillsUSA is a partnership of students, teachers and industry working together to ensure America has a skilled workforce., SkillsUSA serves middle-school, high-school and college/postsecondary students preparing for careers in trade, technical and skilled service (including health) occupations.  LBUSD’s SkillsUSA Chapter are located at McBride High School and Sato Academy of Mathematics and Science.
