Where Learning Meets Laughter: A Joy-Filled Summer with ELO-P

elop students 2025

This summer, more than 40 Long Beach Unified sites came alive through the Expanded Learning Opportunities Program (ELO-P), a vibrant alternative to traditional summer school that blends academics, creativity, friendship, and fun.

At McKinley Elementary, classrooms were filled with smiling faces, thoughtful engagement, and bursts of excitement. Students were immersed in joyful discovery. From group discussions to collaborative games and creative lessons, McKinley embodied what summer learning should look like: enriching, empowering, and energizing.

“Our students are learning and thriving,” said Alexis Echeveste, ELO-P Site Director.  “You can feel the joy the moment you step into any of our sites. The laughter, the excitement, and the growth are all happening here.”

In total, the following schools participated in the 2025 Expanded Learning Summer Program:

Elementary & K–8 Schools:

Addams, Avalon, Barton, Birney, Bixby, Burbank, Bryant, Chavez, Cleveland, Cubberley K–8, Dooley, Edison, Garfield, Gompers, Grant, Herrera, Holmes, King, Lafayette, Lincoln, Longfellow, Lowell, Mann, McKinley, Muir K–8, Newcomb K–8, Oropeza, Powell K–8, Prisk K–8, Robinson K–8, Roosevelt, Signal Hill, Smith, Stevenson, Webster, Whittier, Willard

Middle Schools:

Bancroft, Franklin, Hamilton, Hughes, Jefferson, Lindbergh, Lindsey, Nelson, Rogers, Stephens

These campuses became safe, nurturing hubs for learning, laughter, and continued academic momentum. Students built social-emotional skills, gained confidence, and had the opportunity to enjoy being kids during the summer.

Thanks to our Expanded Learning Opportunities Program, our students made memories, grew as learners, and got ready for the school year ahead.
