Third Graders at Roosevelt Surprised with New Bikes
The entire third-grade class at Roosevelt Elementary School was surprised with brand-new bicycles during a special assembly in December, thanks to the fantastic Rotary Club of Long Beach.
As part of the Rotary Club’s end-of-year service activities for the Bikes 4 Kids Project, 125 students were gifted new bikes with helmets. Forty volunteers helped build the bicycles and assisted students with fittings just in time for the heartwarming donation. The third-grade classes had anticipated only a few students would win the bikes as part of an essay contest, but to their amazement, the President of the Rotary Club, Steve Hockett, went upstage to make the announcement to students.
“You think maybe we could give another bike?” Hockett beamed. “How about we do a little better than that—how about we give everybody a bike?”
The students erupted in cheers and screamed gleefully at the sight of their new bicycles unveiled. The Rotary Club was incredibly proud to make this moment possible, stating,” We’re bringing smiles to Roosevelt Elementary with the Bikes 4 Kids project. Thanks to our generous volunteers, third graders will receive a special gift that they’ll never forget!”
