Teacher Earns National Fellowship

Ky-Phong Tran

Film and English Teacher Ky-Phong Tran of Renaissance High School for the Arts is one of 14 high school educators in the U.S. to be selected for the 2023 Jack Hazard Fellowship by the nonprofit New Literary Project (NewLit).

Launched in 2022, the Jack Hazard Fellowship aims to inspire and equip an underserved and deserving community of creative writers by awarding each fellow with $5,000 to support their artistic endeavors as high school teachers and allow them to concentrate freely on their writing for a summer.

“Jack Hazard Fellows are fiction, creative nonfiction and memoir writers who teach full-time in an accredited high school in the United States,” states the NewLit website. “They represent NewLit’s full-throated commitment to support writers across generations, communities and divides.”

The New Literary Project, previously known as the Simpson Literary Project, invests in students, teachers, readers and authors, and inspires and equips writers across generations.
