Students Score with L.A. Dodgers Donation

Several Long Beach Unified School District students received a welcome boost before the first day of school when representatives from the Los Angeles Dodgers visited and donated 1,500 backpacks.
Backpacks and school supplies were distributed to students from Grant, King, Powell and Harte Elementary schools during the Dodgers Backpack Giveaway event held at Grant Elementary School on Tuesday, Aug. 29. Additional backpacks and school supplies will be distributed among the school sites to give to students who could not attend the event.
The event was held in collaboration between the LBUSD, Dodgers and Jacoby & Meyers, the official law firm of the Los Angeles Dodgers. Former Dodgers infielder and outfielder Jerry Hairston Jr. also was in attendance.
