Standing in Solidarity: LBUSD’s Commitment to Immigrant Families
The dedicated and hardworking Long Beach Unified staff have showcased—and continue to showcase—their solidarity with immigrant students and families, one Red Card at a time.
The Standing in Solidarity: Empowering Our Immigrant Students and Families effort represents a monumental undertaking by district staff to support and protect immigrant students and families. Administrators, school office personnel, and support staff received training, and Red Cards were created, printed, and delivered to every school in multiple languages. A dedicated website was launched, and a comprehensive staff guide was developed to outline best practices.
To ensure thoughtful and effective communication, internal meetings and discussions were held with district leaders and staff to brainstorm and finalize this critical work. Additionally, multilingual videos were produced to reaffirm our commitment, and strategic communication and social media content was created to amplify the message and reach more families.
This effort would not have been possible without the collective work of many dedicated departments and individuals who embody the System and Adult Portraits of Vision 2035. The Communications Department is honored to recognize and thank the following teams for their contributions:
- Duplicating Department – For meticulously printing the Red Cards, ensuring clarity and accessibility, and funding the production of the cards and guidance documents.
- Translations Department – For ensuring every document was accurately translated to serve our diverse Long Beach community.
- School Safety Division – For their ongoing commitment to ensuring the well-being and security of all students.
- Mail Services Department – For efficiently distributing these essential resources across the district.
- School Support Services – For training staff and providing resources to immigrant students and families.
- Equity, Engagement, & Partnerships Department – For working with community partners to provide critical resources and information to staff, students and families, such as Know Your Rights presentations/workshops.
- District Leaders and Internal Advisory Group – For their expertise, insight, and leadership in shaping the Standing in Solidarity document and implementation.
- General Counsel – For providing invaluable legal guidance in shaping this effort.
- The Deputy Superintendent’s Office – For leading this critical effort and providing guidance and training to LBUSD personnel.
- Superintendent’s Office – For their leadership, support and work with other districts nationwide to refine and align the message with broader efforts supporting immigrant students and families.
- Communications Department – For developing the website, crafting clear messages that reaffirm the district’s solidarity stance, producing multilingual videos, and creating strategic social media content to amplify this effort. Their work ensured critical information reached families and reinforced LBUSD’s unwavering commitment to immigrant students.
Thank you to every administrator, educator, school office personnel, and staff member in Long Beach Unified who continues to ensure the safety and protection of our immigrant community. Your commitment is a testament to what we can achieve when we come together with conviction, dedication, and care. #WeAreLBUSD
