Skyline Shift: Jordan High’s New Gym and Aquatic Center Take Shape

The skyline at Jordan High School is evolving, signaling a major milestone for students, athletes, and the surrounding community. The recent topping-out ceremony for Phase 6: Gymnasium and Aquatic Center marked the placement of the final structural beam on the last major facility in a sweeping campus modernization effort that began in 2014.

Superintendent Dr. Jill A. Baker attended the ceremony following what had been anticipated as her final construction milestone celebration in February at the Polytechnic High School CTE Building, a meaningful return to a campus central to District modernization efforts during her tenure. As a sentimental gesture, contractor CW Driver also presented commemorative keepsakes crafted from the original gymnasium floor, engraved with the Jordan Panther, offering attendees a tangible connection to the school’s history as it transitions into its next chapter.

Spanning more than a decade, the transformation has already reshaped the campus with new academic and SPED classroom buildings, a modernized science building, a new stadium, upgraded athletic facilities, and enhanced learning environments throughout.

Now rising on the south side of the existing stadium, the 65,000-square-foot gymnasium and aquatic center complex is designed to serve as a central hub for athletics and student life. Replacing the original aging gymnasium, the new facility combines modern functionality with architectural elements that reflect Jordan’s campus identity. Its distinctive sawtooth roofline echoes existing structures while supporting solar integration.

Plans include a main gymnasium with seating for approximately 1,700, power-operated bleachers, and direct access to the stadium. The complex will also house a practice gym, wrestling room, weight room, trainer room, and locker rooms. The adjacent aquatic center will feature a competition-size pool, shaded seating for 500 spectators, and supporting amenities. The existing indoor pool will be repurposed into an auxiliary gym, expanding space for student activities.

Construction began in October 2024 and remains on schedule, with structural work currently underway and completion anticipated in August 2027. Funded through Measure K, the $98.28 million investment reflects the community’s long-standing commitment to modern, high-quality school facilities and to learning environments that serve as points of community pride.
