The Long Beach Press-Telegram’s 2022 Halloween-themed Scary Stories Contest included these categories and winning Long Beach Unified School District students:

Elementary School Stories – winner, “The Evil Kitten” by Mason Baughfman of Los Cerritos; Elementary School Artwork – winner, untitled drawing by Olive Madison of Patrick Henry.

Middle School Stories – first place, untitled by Kaya Sangkarat of Bancroft; Middle School Artwork – winner, untitled artwork by Eliana Hernandez of Stephens. 

High School Stories – first place, “Parasitism” by Anela Angeles of Poly.

Angelina Park of California Academy of Mathematics and Science was one of only 306 students in the world to receive a perfect score on the 2022 AP Research exam. Park, who graduated in 2022, earned the maximum possible score on each portion of the exam. 

Cristina Salvador Klenz, a behavior intervention assistant through LBUSD’s Office of School Support Services, recently published a book that will soon be available at all District high school libraries. “Hidden: Life with California’s Roma Families” is the first photography book to feature America Roma (formerly known as gypsies) and offers an intimate look at the difficult realities facing California’s Romani people. Since its release, “Hidden” has earned first place in the Documentary Book category of the 2022 International Photography Awards, and has been featured in many publications. Read more at lbpost.com.
