Millikan's marching band, color guard, cheerleaders, dancers and vocalists participated in the Belmont Shore Christmas Parade and were awarded "Best School Entry" for their incredible work.  

Shane Hardy and his staff at Eminent Giving partnered with John Morris, general manager of the Boathouse on the Bay restaurant, to donate over 1,000 toys for students at Hudson Elementary during December.

Millikan High’s football program had six students sign with colleges to play Division 1 football. The students included Sirr Bible for San Jose State, Anthony League for Cal Berkeley, Branden Meza for Weber State, JP Mialovski for San Diego State, Maki Stewart for Arizona State and Joshua Tuchek for UNLV.

The562.org’s internship program welcomed twelve LBUSD high school student interns for the 2024-25 school year. The LBUSD Board of Education approved a five-year contract with the 562 to strengthen and extend their paid high school internship program. The 12 interns for the 2024-25 school year are: Eddie Becker, Jorany Chim, Emma Chun, Bella Emery, Flor Garibay, Ki’ele Ho-Ching, Kayla Jackson, Zadie Kuykendall, Victor Lao, Ben Montooth, Lilly Otero, and Avery Peck.

Long Beach Poly’s Kristen Dear and Aaya McLyn and Millikan High’s Anthony League were named Press Telegram’s Athlete of the Year.

The Long Beach Unified School District received a Kaiser Permanente grant to improve physical activity opportunities for its elementary school students. The grant will allow the LBUSD to expand with the school wellness office’s offering required paid training to over 450 recreation staff members. This expansion reinforces the district’s commitment to improving student wellness and ensuring that physical activity is incorporated into the daily school routine.

Former NFL star and Long Beach Poly alumnus, William McGinest, delivered 500 toys and 300 sports balls to kids at the Wallace/Petrolane Boys & Girls Clubs of Long Beach during the holiday season.

LBS Financial Credit Union delivered thousands of school supplies to Oropeza Elementary. The credit union adopts a different school in LBUSD every year and partners with its principal to receive a wish list of items needed for students and classrooms. Oropeza’s wish list included art supplies, binders, backpacks, crayons, erasers, markers, notebooks, toys, and more.
