Long Beach Unified School District student alumni, Billie Jean King, will be the first individual female athlete to be awarded the Congressional Gold Medal. The award honors her legacy and efforts to fight for LGBTQ+ and women’s rights.

The girl's cross-country team at Wilson High won 1st place at the first Moore League meet of the season with the help of runner, Shiraya Lewis-Williams, the tiebreaker in the race. The boy’s cross-country team from Millikan High also ranked 1st at the meet, with the aid of senior Maximiliano Ramirez.

Several Long Beach Unified School District students attended a BOSS (Business of Student Success) event. The mentorship program empowers middle and high school Black and Latino students to close the achievement gap through continuous support and resources.

Auttum Phang, a student at Poly High School, was recognized for her work in Khmer Girls in Action, a Long Beach non-profit aimed to support racial and economic justice led by Southeast Asian women and youth.

Long Beach Poly was ranked in Press-Telegram's Top 10 Girls' High School Flag Football Teams. Senior Aaya McLyn had 25 total touchdowns as a quarterback for the team and was named the athlete of the week in September. Read more at PressTelegram.com.
