Valerie Vinnard

Millikan High School sophomore Francesca Acosta was named the winner of the Floodplain Management Association (FMA) Annual Conference Logo Design Contest. Acosta, a graphic design student, will receive a $500 prize. Acosta’s logo will be used at the 2023 FMA annual conference where she will be honored.

Superintendent Jill A. Baker was recently named the 2023 Distinguished Alumna by the College of Education at California State University, Long Beach. The award is presented each year to an alum from each college who is an outstanding example of accomplishment and distinction.

Valerie Vinnard, a music education teacher at Dooley, Los Cerritos, McKinley, Prisk and Webster elementary schools, recently published an article in the Delta Kappa Gamma Society International Collegial Exchange Magazine. The article, “Differentiation in the General Music Classroom," explores the importance of incorporating Science, Technology, Engineering Art and Mathematics (STEAM) lessons, social-emotional learning and culturally relevant and sustaining pedagogy during music instruction.
