Long Beach Poly’s Garden Club Blooms with New Greenhouse and Community Support
Long Beach Poly's Garden Club is the latest to have an excellent addition to its ever-growing garden, a greenhouse provided through its well-earned ClimateLB Youth Climate Action Fund Microgrant.
The Poly Garden Club was awarded for its exceptional youth-led reforestation and planting projects, which mobilize volunteers to enhance urban green spaces and expand the urban canopy, improving air quality and promoting climate resilience. The Garden Club is known for its efforts in teaching students the fundamentals of planting seeds, starting seedlings and creating terrariums, all while enhancing students' learning opportunities.
Since then, Long Beach Poly has bloomed with its new greenhouse, vibrant flowers and newly installed colorful garden signage designed by students, staff and Poly alum parents. Club members dedicated extra time after school to researching various plants, pollinators and animals, deepening their knowledge and commitment to the environment to create the new signs. The California Native Plant Society, in partnership with the Anthony La Freta School Gardens Fund, generously sponsored this incredible project as Poly prepares to host their 4th Annual Festival of Gardening and Butterflies event in May.
The Poly Garden Club continues to receive recognition through numerous awards for its outstanding program and unwavering commitment to enhancing student experiences, a testament to the goals of Vision 2035.
