LBUSD Students Complete Externship Program
During the summer recess, 24 Jordan and Cabrillo high school students participated in the second annual Long Beach Airport externship program.
The Careers Taking Flight initiative, launched last year in partnership with LBUSD, provides students with opportunities to learn about aviation careers. Throughout the program, students explored the job requirements, credentials, and compensation for various aviation roles, including those at airports, airlines, the Federal Aviation Administration, and the Transportation Security Administration.
“This initiative provides our students with invaluable exposure to the aviation industry and equips them with the skills and knowledge to pursue exciting career opportunities,” Superintendent Dr. Jill A. Baker stated.
Participating students who completed the program received a $500 incentive and enjoyed a free exploration flight on the final day. Additionally, two graduates from the 2023 externship program were offered full summer internships to serve as leaders for the 2024 cohort, with funding from the Long Beach Unified School District.
