LBUSD Students Attend LACOE Student Council Meeting

Three LBUSD students joined the LACOE Inaugural Student Advisory Committee meeting for the 2024-25 year earlier in August.

The LACOE Student Advisory Council provides a unique leadership opportunity for high school students to represent their districts in meaningful conversations. Student Council Members meet quarterly to raise awareness of educational challenges and offer solutions to help reshape public education. Their next meeting is set for early Spring.

The student members representing Long Beach Unified School District are:

  • Febie Tarpley, California Academy of Mathematics and Science
  • Leah Traylor, Jordan High School
  • Sydney Park, California Academy of Mathematics and Science

Leah Traylor highlights the significance of being a Student Advisor and how the position “...allows you to advocate for yourself along with other students and the people involved with your school."

Febie Tarpley states that being an advisor gives her the opportunity to “...represent those that aren’t represented. This includes students, teachers and staff who put their time and effort into ensuring everyone is okay.”

We wish our LBUSD LACOE Student Council Representatives success on their incredible journey in redefining education.
