LBUSD Recognized for Equity and Innovation Efforts

rsvp cover

The National Equity Project (NEP) recently highlighted the Long Beach Unified School District in its publication, “Seeding Liberatory Leadership”, praising LBUSD’s continued commitment to equity and innovation for its students.

NEP, a nonprofit organization that works with school districts and community leaders to advance educational equity and improve outcomes for students, spotlights LBUSD’s Vision 2035 journey, the partnership between students and educators through the Raising Student Voice and Participation (RSVP) initiative, and the leadership of District teams across departments working to create a more inclusive system for all.

"The visioning process,” says Superintendent Dr. Jill Baker, “was completely different than any vision work that had been done in our district previously. It was a very community-driven vision-building experience."

The article additionally recognizes the efforts of numerous District leaders, staff, and students who are creating meaningful change across LBUSD through collaboration, community voice, and Liberatory Design practices as introduced to the District by Dr. Nader Twal.

NEP notes LBUSD’s work through the Center of Black Student Excellence, the CORE Schools network, Human Resources, and School Safety teams, all of which are using Liberatory Design practices to strengthen District leadership, reimagine student support structures, and advance the long-term Vision 2035 goals.

We are proud to see the work of our students, staff, and school communities recognized on a national level as we continue striving to ensure every student feels seen, supported, and empowered to thrive.
