On May 2nd, the Long Beach Unified Office of Equity, Engagement & Partnerships brought together students, families, staff, and community members for the 2nd Annual AAPI Heritage Month Celebration at Cabrillo High School.

The festival highlighted talented and creative LBUSD students, including a traditional dance by the Long Beach Poly Pacific Islander Club and colorful artwork showcased at the AAPI Art Exhibition. Local food vendors added to the celebration with delicious offerings, and departments throughout LBUSD provided valuable resources, reflecting the district’s shared commitment to uplifting the rich traditions and diversity of the AAPI community in Long Beach.

Whittier Elementary Principal, Dr. Angel Mikae, expressed her enthusiasm for the event, stating, “Our District’s AANHPI event holds a special place in my heart as a proud Filipino and Sāmoan principal. It’s a powerful reminder that our identity, culture, and community matter deeply in the systems we lead and shape. Watching this next generation carry forward the legacy of representation fills me with so much pride and hope; they are not only honoring those before them, but actively inspiring our youth.”

AAPI Heritage Month is an incredible celebration of culture, community, and togetherness that LBUSD is proud to highlight. We are grateful to everyone who joined in honoring the contributions of the AAPI community and making the event a wonderful success.
