Fremont Elementary Celebrates Lunar New Year
Fremont Elementary Celebrated the Lunar New Year in January, highlighting inclusivity and equity within the school community.
The Lunar New Year is typically celebrated in China and various Asian countries around the world. It begins on the first new moon of the lunar calendar and lasts for 15 days, with each culture featuring its unique festivities and foods that symbolize abundance and togetherness. One important preparation for the Lunar New Year includes a traditional cleaning ritual, which is believed to make space for goodwill and luck. However, one of the most cherished customs is gifting red envelopes filled with money to children, a gesture thought to bring good fortune.

As a way to honor the holiday, Principal Chris Lounsbery and the Fremont PTA hosted a celebration with incredible activities. Parents and students alike enjoyed the pageantry and performance of the Ane Thanh Lion Dance group, creative student projects, robotics demonstrations, crafts and traditional food vendors, a remarkable way to reaffirm diversity and accessibility for the Long Beach community.
"I truly appreciate the tremendous effort our PTA puts into providing valuable cultural experiences for the students and families at Fremont Elementary. These cultural community nights play a key role in supporting an inclusive learning environment that fosters identity and empowers all of our Fremont Falcons,” praised Principal Lounsbery.
The staff, students and community at Fremont Elementary truly embody Vision 2035 and its goals by valuing and elevating the unique histories and stories that represent the local community while affirming cultural identities.
