Engines Roared at Carver, While Bixby Got a Glimpse of Greatness

Bixby Mascot

The energy was electric at Carver Elementary as students welcomed Long Beach Grand Prix driver Rome Charpentier and his thunderous BMW race car. The roar of the engine, the spin of the tires, and the sheer thrill of seeing a real race car in motion brought joy to every student’s face. Rome didn’t just show up—he showed out. Our young learners asked thoughtful questions, marveled at their productive racing gear, and cheered as the engine came alive before them.

At Bixby Elementary, students were just as starstruck as they gathered around a sleek, professional-grade race car that looked like it had come straight off the Grand Prix track. Like the car on the track, the excitement was loud! Wide eyes and curious questions filled the air as the Bixby community took this rare opportunity to stand just inches away from a machine built for speed. It was a jaw-dropping moment that sparked imaginations and maybe even a few future engineers and drivers.

But beyond the adrenaline rush and cool factor experienced by students at both Carver and Bixby, the morning was all about safety. Students were fascinated to learn that Grand Prix drivers wear not just one but multiple seatbelts to stay safe during high-speed races. They were in awe to learn that race car driver suits are fire-resistant and that they train to exit the car in seconds in case of an emergency. “Wow, I never knew race cars had so many safety rules!” one student gasped.

“The Long Beach Grand Prix visit to Carver Elementary was more than just an exciting event—it was a powerful reminder of what community means,” said Principal Monica Manipon.”Watching our Carver Cougars light up as they met a real race car driver and saw a race car up close on campus showed how connected we are to the heart of Long Beach. As we celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Grand Prix, we’re proud to honor not only the thrill of the race, but the spirit of unity, pride, and possibility that drives our city forward.”

Bixby’s principal, Agustin Vieyra, echoed the same sentiments: “A huge thank you to the Long Beach Grand Prix team for bringing the magic of motorsports to Bixby! Watching our students’ faces light up with curiosity, joy, and wonder was priceless—it was a day they’ll never forget.”

Every student walked away with broad smiles, newfound knowledge, and perhaps a dream or two of becoming racing legends, with their seatbelts buckled tight, of course. What a successful and unforgettable morning at Carver and Bixby.
