Eighth Grade Students Earn Scholarships

story for 8th grade scholarship

Five exceptional eighth graders have each been awarded $500 college scholarships, courtesy of the Lyman W. and Nancy E. Lough Eighth Grade Scholarship Fund!

These scholarships honor students with a minimum GPA of 2.0 who exemplify good citizenship and demonstrate potential for future success. Many of the LBUSD recipients have faced significant challenges but have persevered and continued to pursue their education with determination. Each scholarship provides $100 per year throughout high school, culminating in a total of $500 by the time they enter college.

The winners and their middle schools are:

  • Ty'Shana Alexander, Jefferson Leadership Academy
  • Alicia Colon, Lindbergh STEM Academy
  • Alfie Ek, Nelson Academy
  • Princess Smyth, Robinson K-8 Academy
  • Amelyia Nerubay, Stanford Middle School

As part of the Lough Awards, student David Weatherspoon of Franklin Middle School also received an additional $180-per-year scholarship from the John Frangesh Memorial Fund. The Frangesh Award selection criteria are the same as those used for the Lough Awards.

Congratulations to our students for this incredible achievement!
