Cleveland Elementary Celebrates Black History Spirit Week

Cleveland Elementary proudly celebrated Black History Spirit Week to honor African American culture, history and achievements.

The festivities ran from February 24 through February 28, with students and staff participating in coordinated theme days designed to inspire and promote unity. The celebration kicked off with students wearing red, green, black and yellow, the traditional colors symbolizing African heritage. The following day highlighted a love for literature as students and staff brought their favorite book with an African American character or written by an African American author. A day of solidarity follows with the entire school adorning a black ensemble to cultivate a sense of unity for all people and to stand together as one. Thursday was all about positivity, with students rocking shirts that spread uplifting and encouraging messages. The week concluded with a tribute to Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) to showcase the legacy of Black education and excellence.

At LBUSD and Cleveland Elementary, Black History Spirit Week is more than just a celebration—it is a time to honor culture, unity and the incredible contributions of African Americans throughout history. We are proud to continue fostering a learning environment that highlights diversity, history and education, as it is a powerful reminder that diversity is our strength.
