Cesar Chavez and Los Cerritos Elementary Schools have recently received the Music for All Advocacy in Action award for their work in the Classroom Drum Circle Project!
Advocacy in Action helps educators learn ways to improve their programs and support their communities through music education. Cesar Chavez and Los Cerritos are honored to be recognized as national music influencers under the Elementary Excellence category, with their work featured in Advocacy in Action as a model for other districts to emulate.
Their project, “The Classroom Drum Circle,” has advanced education by providing K-5 students and students with disabilities with a creative learning modality that offers music instruction opportunities to support student growth. The program offers students a hands-on approach to Music Education that is engaging, helps meet scholars in their zone of proximal development, and provides healing benefits through music therapy.
