California Academy of Mathematics Pathway Earns Gold Certification
The California Academy of Mathematics Pathway is the latest to earn Gold Certification from the Linked Learning Alliance.
The California Academy of Mathematics and Science (CAMS) was established in the late 1980s as a public high school dedicated to increasing the representation of diverse students who enter science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) fields. Its ongoing strategy is to offer an accelerated and challenging curriculum to students from a diverse array of academic and demographic backgrounds, making it a leader in educational reform with many awards and achievements, the latest of which is the Linked Learning Certification.
The Linked Learning Gold Certification is awarded to college and career pathways at high schools that implement the Linked Learning approach, which emphasizes rigorous academics, career technical education, work-based learning and comprehensive support services. The certification is the Linked Learning field’s highest standard, an impressive achievement for all of CAMS educators, students and partners on their transformative student experiences that lead to high-quality college and career outcomes.
“CAMS has long been a place where students push boundaries, explore their passions and prepare for the future in meaningful ways,” said Superintendent Dr. Jill A. Baker. “Earning Linked Learning Gold Certification is a testament to the school’s commitment to Excellence and Equity in both academics and career preparation. This recognition affirms what we already know—CAMS is shaping future STEM leaders and ensuring that all students have access to high-quality learning experiences that prepare them for college, career and beyond.” With their new Linked Learning Certification, CAMS sets a benchmark of excellence to prepare students to meet higher education demands while fostering educational equity.
CAMS previously earned a Silver Certification, as did other Long Beach Unified Schools, including Browning, Cabrillo, Jordan, Lakewood, McBride, Millikan and Wilson High School. CAMS is now the fourth school in LBUSD to receive a Gold Certification, following Sato, Cabrillo, and McBride.
Congratulations to the California Academy of Mathematics for this distinguished achievement, a true testament of their dedication to their students and a reflection of their prestigious pathway.
