Wilson Wins National Video Honor
A student team at Wilson High School recently won second place in the short documentary competition at the Student Television Network (STN) National Convention.
The team led by Wilson teacher Thourn Heng competed in the Crazy 8 competition which challenged students to plan, record, edit and deliver a short documentary video in eight hours.
With the help of the owner and staff at a Johnny Rockets restaurant in downtown Long Beach, the students produced the winning documentary titled “Perseverance of A Little Burger Joint” on the history of the restaurant and the recent impact of COVID-19.
The student team includes junior Benjamin Tinsley, junior Kimberly Soto, senior Sopheary Yean and senior Aidan Pettyjohn. The 2022 STN Convention marked the team’s first time participating in a national competition.
The four-day event was held at the Long Beach Convention Center and offered students the opportunity to learn from professionals, participate in contests, meet peers, and learn more about broadcast journalism, filmmaking and multimedia.
