Epson Gives Schools High-Tech Printers

Fine arts and photography students at high schools here will soon be using professional color computer printers, a $25,000 gift from Epson America. Cabrillo, Lakewood, Poly, Millikan, Jordan and Wilson high schools and the California Academy of Mathematics and Science each will receive an Epson Stylus Pro 5500, a high resolution archival quality ink jet printer. The seven printers are valued at $3,500 each. "We are grateful to Epson for making a substantial gift of these wonderful state-of-the-art color printers to each of our six large comprehensive high schools and the California Academy of Math and Science," said Chris Steinhauser, superintendent of schools. "Thousands of high school students will see, enjoy and use the high quality prints produced by these high-tech machines. Epson is sending a message to our schools and students that education is really important. Epson's example as an enlightened corporate leader is deeply appreciated." Schools should be receiving the printers during the next few weeks. Other printer recipients include LBCC, CSULB and the Museum of Latin American Art. Highly desirable for photography, the printers use non-fading archival inks and papers, a higher printing resolution and have the capability of replenishing individual color ink cartridges, which reduces costs.
