Sister Cities Art Contest Winners

Sister Cities of Long Beach

Five Long Beach Unified School District students earned recognition in the 2021 Young Artists and Authors Showcase (YAAS) hosted by the Sister Cities of Long Beach. The competition encourages teens to express values of international friendship and cultural exchange through art.

The winning LBUSD students include:

Visual Art – first place, Annalise Mirsec of Wilson; second place, Sofia Farfan of Poly.

Literature – first place, Claire Beeli of Wilson.

Music – first place, Visud Chang of Poly; second place, Tiaja Traylor-Morgan of Wilson.

The theme of this year’s competition was “United in Hope.” Students were asked to create art through the lens of citizen diplomacy and the ways the world can stand together to face the future. Entries were submitted in the categories of two-dimensional art, literature, photography and music.

More than 50 entries were submitted from Long Beach teens and students from the Long Beach Sister Cities of Sochi, Russia and Yokkaichi, Japan. The winners received cash prizes and qualified for a chance to become global winners in an international competition.
