Avalon Celebrates 100 Years
On December 7, Avalon TK-12 School celebrated its centennial with a gala at the Casino Ballroom, with over 250 guests, including LBUSD staff, board members and alums dating back to 1961 and as recent as 2024.
To commemorate Avalon's milestone, attendees were surprised with musical performances and entertainment provided by the Buzz Balls and Eddie Hoffman. The gala additionally honored Coach Nick Morones for his leadership in the CIF Division 2 8-man Football Championship and for being named CIF Division 2 8-man Football Coach of the Year.
Residing on Santa Catalina Island, Avalon hosts elementary, middle and high school students in a single shared campus. Due to its island location, many teachers know their students as neighbors and have developed as a close-knit community outside the classroom. Staff have, therefore, consistently and actively supported students' academic and social growth inside and outside of school, a rarity in today's complex world.
Through its 100 years, Avalon continues to foster a culture of respect, community collaboration and excellence, believing in the potential of every student and building compassionate relationships to drive student success.
