Millikan High School Students

Fourteen schools in the Long Beach Unified School District have earned rankings on U.S. News and World Report’s list of America’s 2024 Best High Schools

Once again, the California Academy of Mathematics and Science topped the LBUSD list, ranking as the fifth-best high school in California and the 39th-best nationally.

Sato Academy of Mathematics and Science and McBride High School, two of Long Beach Unified’s newest high schools, also renewed their top state rankings. Sato ranked No. 23 in California and No. 191 in the nation, and McBride ranked No. 132 in California.

Avalon, Browning, Cabrillo, Jordan, Lakewood, Millikan, Poly, Reid, Renaissance, Wilson and Educational Partnership High School also earned their place in state rankings among 1,652 winning high schools. The schools were selected out of 2,616 high schools in California.

Nationwide, U.S. News evaluated approximately 17,655 public high schools out of nearly 25,000 in all 50 states and the District of Columbia.

All schools were assessed on six indicators of school quality: college readiness, college curriculum breadth, math and reading proficiency, math and reading performance, underserved student performance and graduation rates. This recognition underscores the quality of education offered across LBUSD and the outstanding achievements of its students and staff.
