Peer Assistance and Review Overview

Peer Assistance and Review (PAR) is a teacher support program that allows a highly effective teacher to support a peer demonstrating less than satisfactory performance, to become proficient in the California Standards for the Teaching Profession. PAR incorporates important principles such as: collaborative lesson planning, sharing instructional strategies and pedagogical content knowledge, reviewing best practices with classroom management techniques, coaching consultations with problem of practice, and ample opportunities to observe peers. A Participating Teacher is a teacher who has achieved permanent status and who, as a result of either an interim or a final evaluation in which one or more ratings of unsatisfactory or multiple developing have been earned, demonstrates a need for assistance to improve his/her competencies in the California Standards for the Teaching Profession.  This assistance and support shall be designed to strengthen the Participating Teacher’s instructional skills, classroom management, knowledge of subject matter, and other aspects of his/her teaching performance aligned to the California Standards for the Teaching Profession.
