On Monday, March 24, the bargaining teams for the Long Beach Unified School District and TALB held their fourth bargaining session for the 2024-25 school year. During this full-day session, teams continued to make progress in negotiations.
As a result of the work completed during the bargaining session, the teams reached several additional tentative agreements on contract language revisions, including:
- Appendix D - National Board Certification: Changes include updating the time to complete certification to five years and expanding eligible activities for National Board Designated Master Teachers to include serving as a Peer Assistance and Review (PAR) Consulting Teacher.
- Collaborative Co-Teach MOU: Changes include adjustments to teacher selection criteria and exempting CCT teachers from elementary replacement service. The teams continue to work on CCT class composition language.
- Extended Duty Year MOU: Changes include providing training location flexibility for groups such as SLPs, nurses and psychologists, and adjusting the frequency of meetings for the District/TALB Implementation Committee. The parties agree in principle to ongoing input from training participants and are working on specific language.
The District remains committed to working collaboratively with TALB to reach a successor agreement. Future sessions will address key topics such as class size and staffing ratios, compensation, days and hours, association rights regarding union business, dual enrollment, work year, and safety.
