On Monday, March 10, the bargaining teams for the Long Beach Unified School District and TALB held their fourth bargaining session for the 2024-25 school year. During this full-day session, teams continued to make progress in negotiations.
As a result of the work completed during the bargaining session, the teams reached several additional tentative agreements on contract language revisions, including:
- Transfers: Extending the expiring “Guidelines for Change of Assignment - Teacher Support” MOU until June 30, 2028.
- Association Rights: Adjustments to items shared with TALB regarding new unit member information.
- Vision Care Insurance: Changes to allow employees to purchase an enhanced vision care plan for themselves and their families.
- Peer Assistance and Review: Allowing National Board Certified teachers to serve as Consulting Teachers as part of their 60-hour requirement for additional compensation and eliminating a redundant definition.
- Evaluation: Confirming that evaluation objectives and standards are based on the California Standards for the Teaching Profession, Early Childhood Education standards (for CDC/Head Start), and Board Policies.
- Shared Decision Making: Updates to improve the efficiency of the joint Shared Decision-Making Committee and remove outdated language.
- Sick Leave Donation Program: Updates to remove outdated language.
- Paperwork, Reporting Student Data, and Utilization of Technology: Updates to the appendix to clarify functions of the joint committee on this subject.
The District remains committed to working collaboratively with TALB to reach a successor agreement. Future sessions will address key topics such as compensation, association rights regarding union business, grievance procedures, dual enrollment, work year, class size, and additional health and medical cost containment measures.
