On Friday, February 14, the bargaining teams for the Long Beach Unified School District and TALB held their third bargaining session. During this full-day session, teams finalized ground rules and made significant progress in negotiations.
As a result of the work completed over the last three sessions, the bargaining teams reached several tentative agreements on contract language revisions, including:
- Expanded Eligibility Criteria: Teachers with one “Developing” rating on their most recent evaluation—pending approval from their current principal—may now apply for summer school positions and submit voluntary transfer requests.
- Payroll Error Revisions: Updates to payroll error guidelines to align with current law.
- Health and Welfare Benefits Adjustments: Changes designed to help delay reaching the District Annual Maximum for medical plans.
- Expanded Peer Assistance and Review (PAR) Eligibility: Teachers may now voluntarily participate in the PAR program, and National Board Designated Master Teachers can serve as Consulting Teachers for PAR.
- Shared Decision Making: Clarification of Joint Shared Decision Making Committee meeting timelines and functions.
The District remains committed to working collaboratively with TALB to reach a successor agreement. Future sessions will address key topics such as compensation, work year, additional health and medical cost containment measures, and evaluation procedures.
