Bargaining Sessions for 2024/25 Begin with TALB

Each time we enter collective bargaining with the Teachers Association of Long Beach (TALB), both negotiation teams are required by the Educational Employment Relations Act (EERA) to present their initial proposals at a public Board of Education meeting. This process, known as “sunshining,” ensures that the public is reasonably informed about the issues being negotiated, as bargaining occurs outside of public view.

As part of this process, a reasonable period must be provided for public review and input before negotiations begin. Traditionally, we present the proposals at one Board meeting and allow for public comment at a subsequent meeting. Following public comment, the Board formally votes to accept the proposals.

On December 18, 2024, the Board acknowledged receipt of TALB’s initial proposals and approved the District’s, allowing negotiations to proceed.

Today, Wednesday, January 29, the bargaining teams for the Long Beach Unified School District officially began the 2024-2025 bargaining sessions. During this session, teams reviewed ground rules, initial proposals, and established timelines for future discussions.

Upcoming TALB negotiation dates:

  • February 6 and 14
  • March 10 and 24

Please stay tuned for additional updates as negotiations progress.
