Tentative Deal with CSEA Includes Raise

Bargaining teams for the Long Beach Unified School District and the California School Employees Association, Long Beach Chapter 2 have reached a tentative agreement for the 2021-22 negotiation year. Included in the tentative agreement are the following salary increases that parallel the agreement previously reached with the Teachers Association of Long Beach:

  • 4.5 percent ongoing salary increase for 2021-22, retroactive to July 1, 2021
  • One-time “off schedule” 2.5 percent payment based on earnings for the 2021-22 fiscal year
  • Increase of the travel expense allowance for Catalina Island employees to $1,153

The school district is grateful to the state CSEA organization and their regional field office for their collaborative efforts on the tentative agreement in recent days.

This tentative agreement is subject to ratification by CSEA's membership and approval by the Board of Education. In the upcoming days, CSEA will provide members information regarding the ratification process. Once the tentative agreement is ratified by CSEA membership, the agreement will be presented to the school board for consideration.

Pending approval, retroactive checks for the ongoing and off schedule increases would be disbursed in phases to qualifying employees beginning as early as January.

While compensation was an important component of the negotiation process, the bargaining teams also addressed other key contract language including:

  • Benefit eligibility for all registered domestic partners
  • Juneteenth added to the holiday list for classified employees
  • Bargaining
  • CSEA
