Tentative Agreement with TALB Includes Raise

As we communicated by email on April 30, bargaining teams for the Long Beach Unified School District and the Teachers Association of Long Beach have reached a tentative agreement. This agreement includes a substantive package of ongoing, retroactive and one-time salary increases for the 2021-22 school year, while keeping current benefit plans.

Pending final approval by TALB members and the Board of Education, key tenets of the agreement include:

  • 4.5% ongoing salary increase retroactive to July 1, 2021
  • 2.5% one-time payment based on earnings for the 2021-22 fiscal year
  • Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) addressing key components for Full Day Kindergarten and Transitional Kindergarten programs
  • Language to support Collaborative Co-Teach instructional models
  • Recognition of counselors and school psychologists as TALB bargaining unit members
  • Additional stipend opportunities added to Salary Schedule S
  • Language clarifying eligibility for the five-year evaluation cycle

Click here for supporting documents, including the MOUs and the full, tentative agreement.

For employees who are not represented by TALB, we reiterate that our school district has a well established history of parity in terms of salary increases across employee groups, and we will strive to uphold that tradition as we move forward, including as we continue to negotiate with CSEA in the coming months.

TALB will hold an information session on Tuesday, May 10 in the Longfellow Elementary School auditorium beginning at 4:30 p.m. This session will be followed by an electronic ratification vote scheduled for May 11 through May 13. TALB will directly provide its members more details on the process.

More information and timelines will follow regarding Board approval and timelines for retroactive checks and salary schedule adjustments.
