Details on Compensation Offer to TALB
Bargaining teams for the Long Beach Unified School District and the Teachers Association of Long Beach (TALB) continue to work toward reaching a contract agreement that validates the hard work of teachers. As part of the ongoing negotiation process, the teams continue to work on agreements for the remaining proposals including compensation and extending the duty year to include pupil free days.
The District has made a compensation offer to TALB for an on-schedule raise of 8%, retroactive to July 1, 2022 and a 2% one-time off-schedule raise based on earnings from July 1, 2022 through June 30, 2023.
In developing this offer, the District incorporated a number of factors to determine the salary parameters for the 2022-23 school year including the cost of living adjustment (COLA), ongoing declines in enrollment, the increased cost of employee health benefits, and comparable total compensation packages, along with raises from surrounding districts.
Based on the needs of our students and staff, the District has proposed adding four pupil free days to provide staff the opportunity for collaboration, review of student data, and/or site-based training. Because teachers would be paid at their regular rate for these additional days, the added compensation is equivalent to an additional 2.2% salary increase and is eligible for regular CalSTRS credit.
The District looks forward to working with TALB as talks continue on Feb. 24.
