Chimnazaekpere Nwala - Student Board Member

Chimnazaekpere Nwala, a senior at Ernest McBride High School, serves as the newest Student Board Member for the Long Beach Unified School District and is the first Black student to hold this role. A dedicated leader, she is President of the Black Literary Society, Vice President of the Black Student Union, and an active member of Student Council, while also playing varsity volleyball and working with school administration to manage McBride’s thrift shop, which raises funds to support her peers. Nwala’s leadership has been described as focused, inspiring, and impactful, with her principal calling her “an all-around rockstar.” She is especially grateful for the support of her family and educators, who helped her reach this milestone, and is committed to ensuring that student voices remain influential in district decision-making. Looking ahead, she plans to attend Harvard College to pursue a career in medicine, continuing her passion for service, advocacy, and leadership beyond the classroom.
