Several students, families and school staff recently attended the reception and awards ceremony for the 38th annual Norman Gottlieb Youth Art Show at the Alpert Jewish Community Center.
The reception recognized the top three art pieces displayed in this year’s Gottlieb exhibition by middle and high school students from the Long Beach Unified School District. A total of 62 LBUSD middle and high school students had their art exhibited in this year’s show.
Middle school winners were: first place, Ofelia Oropeza, Hoover; second place, Eliana Hernandez, Stephens; and third place, Sydney Reyes-Nguyen, Stanford.
Honorable mentions were awarded to Harrison Cardona of Stephens; Sunny Castrejohn of Marshall; Jemma Nagle of Stanford; and Isabella Velentza, Samuel Havana and Asher Marin of Rogers.
High school winners were: first place, Arthur Emmanuel Martinis de Alcantar, Lakewood; second place, Violet Hamilton, Renaissance; and director’s choice, Leo Zelhuantzi Flores, Renaissance.
Honorable mentions were awarded to Haley Bamaca-Romero of Jordan; Kira Hamilton and Simone Mack of Millikan; Natalee Michel and Trevor Pham of Wilson; Yesika Torres of Lakewood; and Haley Zuniga of McBride.
The Honigman Award for Inspired Visual Art Education went to art teacher Rachaellee Law of McBride.
