Long Beach Unified School District Board of Education candidate Maria Isabel López has won the election for the District 1 seat to replace two-term board member Megan Kerr, who ran for Long Beach City Council. Results from the Nov. 8 election were certified this week. López earned 52.26% of the vote vs. challenger Nubia Flores.
The school board’s five districts are divided by geographic area. Districts 1, 3 and 5 were up for election this year. Districts 3 and 5 were decided in a June primary, when District 3 incumbent Juan Benitez ran unopposed, and District 5 incumbent Diana Craighead prevailed over challenger Melissa Pittscutler.
