Millikan High School 11th grader Lucille Montelongo won a logo design contest for the Floodplain Management Association (FMA) Conference. Montelongo created the design using Adobe Illustrator software as an assignment for her graphic design class. The student will receive a $500 prize, and the logo will be used for the 2022 FMA annual conference.
The Long Beach Airport recently named five Long Beach Unified School District students as winners of its “Plane to See” aviation-themed illustration contest. The contest asked artists to create coloring sheet drawings reflecting the diversity of the Long Beach community and its aviation history. The LBUSD winners include Janell Cobian, Dalia Reyes and Lynette Zapet of Cabrillo High School; Cadence Malaluan of Marshall Academy of the Arts; and Alexander Payton of Millikan High School. Each winning student received a $500 prize. The coloring sheets will be distributed at community events and will be available to download online.
Jordan High School senior Se’Quoia Sims recently received the 2022 Youth of the Year award from the Boys & Girls Clubs of Long Beach. Sims will receive a $5,000 college scholarship and a new laptop. She plans to attend San Jose State, her top choice, and will major in forensic science.
