Poly High School’s jazz program recently took home several awards, including first place in the Heavy Division at the Irvine High School Jazz Festival, the largest in southern California.
Poly’s top honors include first place, Jazz A, Heavy Division, Outstanding Rhythm Section; second place, Combo I, Advanced Combo Division; second place, Jazz A2, Advanced Big Band Division, Outstanding Rhythm Section, Outstanding Trombone Section; and third place, Combo II, Intermediate Combo Division.
Student Max Pemberton on alto saxophone was named Outstanding Soloist for the entire day in the advanced division.
Poly is a six-time Grammy Signature School. Since 2000, Poly’s music program has been recognized numerous times by the Grammy Foundation as one of the best high school music programs in the nation. Performance groups at the school include three string orchestras, three jazz bands, marching band, two concert bands and symphonic winds, as well as numerous quartets, combos and small ensembles.
