Forty Jordan High School students participating in the school’s Math Collaborative Program, which includes a summer residential experience at Cal State Long Beach, received new suits during a recent Dress for Success event at the Men’s Suit Outlet in Long Beach.
The Math Collaborative also includes a career-readiness component. Students learn that career-ready individuals communicate with their choice of dress, words and actions. Students expressed that they do not currently own a suit and wrote essays about how owning a suit would prepare them for college and career. Private donors helped to purchase a suit, shirt, tie and belt for each student.
Coordinating the event were Long Beach Unified School District Director of Employee Relations and Community Engagement David Zaid and Math Collaborative Executive Director Doris Robinson.
