More than 30 students from Jordan High School’s Female Leadership Academy recently participated in a workshop called "Dream It, Be It!" provided by the Soroptimist of Long Beach service club.
The club’s Dream It, Be It curriculum reaches girls in secondary school who face obstacles to their future success. Through small group workshops, the club mentors girls on setting and achieving their goals, moving forward after setbacks or failures, and discovering career opportunities. The nonprofit Long Beach Career-Linked Learning, or Long Beach CaLL, helped to make the workshop at Jordan possible.
The slogan of Soroptomist International is “Women at their best, working to help other women to be their best.” The club first formed in 1921 in Oakland at a time when women were not permitted to join service organizations. The name Soroptimist, loosely translated from the Latin, means “best for women.”
