Grant Elementary School K-2 Intervention Specialist Griselda Meza-Allani earned an Award of Classroom Excellence from the California Association of Teachers of English.  One elementary award is given each year.  The Long Beach Public Library Foundation and its Executive Director Kate Azar received a CATE Award of Merit and commendation for their work with schools and the Dictionary Days program.  

Wilson High School seniors Mariana Markouizos and Dezi Pineda were invited to participate in the National Hispanic Recognition Program with the College Board.  Colleges use this program to identify academically exceptional Hispanic/Latino students for admission into their universities.

Beach High School Principal Troy Bennett will be honored on Wednesday, April 10 as a Site Partner of the Year at an annual breakfast for the BLAST organization (Better Learning for All Students Today).  The keynote speaker will be LBUSD Board of Education Member Juan Benitez.  The 7:30 a.m. event takes place at the Long Beach Yacht Club.  Learn more.

Millikan High School counselor Mary Cahill was honored by the 2019 College Board Counselor Recognition Program.

“It’s an honor to highlight the important work of innovative, results-oriented counselors who are committed to student success and opportunity,” College Board Vice President Lorraine Hastings said.
