Eleven special educators and one Speech and Language Pathologist from the Long Beach Unified School District were honored at the 2017 Council for Exceptional Children Chapter 108 Star/Regan Awards recently in Long Beach.
Teachers receiving the Star Award for enhancing the lives of students with special needs were Amanda Bowman of McBride; Debbie Cain of Cleveland; Brian Conway of Muir; Patrick Estes of Stephens; Maria Flores of Alvarado; Marietta Hammond of Jordan; Kelly Sommer of Chavez; Micah Stork of Tucker ACT; Judith Tierney of Hudson; Dina Weinberg of Millikan and Slater Williams of Jordan.
The newly created Mike Regan Super Nova Award was presented to Judith McNeice, speech language pathologist at Barton. The Regan Award is presented to exemplary speech and language pathologists in LBUSD who have dedicated their career to improving the communication of students with special needs. Mike Regan is a retired LBUSD speech language pathologist and counselor who served on the LBCEC #108 board for more than 20 years.
