United States Geological Survey teams have begun drilling a water and sediment testing well on the Webster Elementary School campus this summer that could help protect the quality of drinking water for local residents.
The well is one of many to be drilled throughout the county to create a comprehensive model of how ground water moves beneath Los Angeles County. Concerns about potential saltwater incursion into the fresh water aquifer prompted the study.
Core samples from the Webster well will also help geologists understand changes in the underground formations of the Los Angeles basin.
