The Boeing Co. recently presented the Long Beach Unified School District with a $75,000 check to support the Long Beach College Promise.
The College Promise was signed in 2008 by leaders from the school district, Long Beach City College and Cal State Long Beach, providing a number of guarantees such as a tuition-free first semester at LBCC and preferred admission at CSULB to help local students prepare for, enter and succeed in college.
The latest grant furthers the College Promise through the creation of Promise Pathways designed to increase the number of students who graduate from LBUSD high schools ready for college level coursework in math and English.
Through this grant and others, the three systems are dedicating staff and faculty to better aligning math and English courses from LBUSD with those at LBCC and CSULB. One of the goals of the Promise Pathways is to prepare more high school students for college coursework so they don’t need remedial courses in college.
